nearby list (alt+n); topic containing about 466 words

The nearby list, accessed from the main screen with tab, alt+n or various tracklist shortcuts that will be described momentarily, represents a comprehensive list of all entities in the game world that are near your location.

When you are focused in the nearby list, you'll first want to use the left and right arrow keys to select a tracklist (also known as a categorized list of entities to track). At the time of writing, these are:

*Tiles (shift+t from the game keyboard area): All tiles (or surfaces) within 150 tiles of you.

*Objects (shift+o from the game keyboard area): All entities in the game that classify as objects, usually meaning any sort of item having nothing to do with the inventory or any item with no better classification, anything from doors to trees to fires.

*items (shift+i from the game keyboard area): All entities in the game that classify as items, usually meaning they were either dropped from the inventory or that they can likely be picked up.

*locations (shift+l from the game keyboard area): All nearby map locations you have unlocked.

*animals (shift+a from the game keyboard area): All non-player-characters (npcs) that are within about 40 tiles of you that specifically classify as animals.

*characters (shift+c from the game keyboard area): All non-player-characters (npcs) within about 40 tiles of you that do not classify as being an animal, usually humans or other highly intelligent creatures.

*players (shift+p from the game keyboard area): All online players within about 40 tiles from you.

As you can see, it is possible to also enter the nearby list by pressing any of the shortcut keys mentioned above to jump to a specific tracklist.

Once you have selected a tracklist, you can select an item or object to track using the up and down arrow keys, and you can track the selected entity with enter. If you are focused on a player in particular, all quick shortcuts such as control+c, control+p, control+v, control+1 etc can be pressed just as in the online players list to perform a given action quickly on a nearby player.

You can press escape to stop tracking something if you are doing so. If you press escape in the nearby list while nothing is being tracked, you are returned to the game keyboard area.

When in the game keyboard area, shift+1 through 9 retrieves info on the object currently being tracked or focused on, while control+shift+1 through 9 changes settings on that object. These keystrokes in particular are mentioned here so that there is no confusion on the different actions they perform when they are pressed in the game keyboard area vs. the nearby list.

You can also press the w key to get an idea of where the tracked item is in relation to you.
